Happy Anniversary To The Nine Lives Lounge

The story of NBA Top Shot cannot be told without Cool Cats and the Nine Lives Lounge.

Today, the next chapter of that story begins. 

Cool Cats is a Series 2 Common set, spanning 30 Moments, that grew over the course of the 2020-21 season, with thematic challenges and surprise airdrops introducing new players and Moments to this curated collection of NBA talent. 

One year ago, on June 1, 2021, the Nine Lives Lounge was first announced — an exclusive club and community dedicated to collectors who own all 30 Cool Cats Moments. 

Today, on the one year anniversary of the Nine Lives Lounge, we celebrate the 2,709 Cool Cats complete set holders who have achieved this feat — representing over 90% of all possible completed sets.  

Here’s a look at our short-term, medium-term and long-term plans, starting today, to recognize this special occasion. 

The Nine Lives Lounge (NLL) Council: this member organized committee established to make decisions on behalf of all community members in the NLL is being extended through at least the remainder of 2022, along with their $10,000 monthly budget allocated to be spent as they choose. 

The Cool Cats Unopened Pack Inventory: a collection of 14,579 Cool Cats packs from the NBA Top Shot vault spanning Cool Cats Drop 1, Drop 2, Drop 3, Drop 4, Cool KAT and Cool Cats: 17,784 — representing over 16,000 total Cool Cats Moments — will now be under the complete control of the NLL Council. The community of Cool Cats collectors devoted to this set and what it represents will be able to determine how, when and if these packs are used and opened. We look forward to seeing what they do with them. 

NBA Top Shot: Vegas x Cool Cats: On July 15 and 16, NBA Top Shot will be hosting a big event for our community and fans in Las Vegas (more details soon), and there will be a special IRL presence designed to celebrate the Nine Lives Lounge and Cool Cats. Details will be shared as the event approaches, but if you’re a member of the NLL, you won’t want to miss this Vegas experience. 

The Cool Cats Basketball Court: The Nine Lives Lounge is a permanent part of the basketball, fandom and collecting legacy we are building. To cement that legacy, literally and figuratively, NBA Top Shot will refurbish, rebuild and redesign a basketball court somewhere in the United States. The NLL community will have the opportunity to collaborate with our team on each step of the process to bring this to life. We anticipate this project will be completed before June 1, 2023.
