[Update: 3/16/21]

The LeBron James Seeing Stars Challenge is coming soon and will require the other half of the Seeing Stars Moments from packs that weren't used in the Kevin Durant Challenge (i.e. not including Mike Conley)

We have received a lot of inquiries around Stress Tests and pack drops. This post is a quick primer on the differences.

Pack Drops

We announce limited edition pack drops to the community at least eight hours in advance. If you are signed up for an account on NBA Top Shot, you will receive these emails every time (unless, of course, you've unsubscribed).

We strive to keep you up-to-date and give plenty of advance notice so that you can schedule accordingly.

“But why do some packs drop without any advance notice?”

That leads to the next point...

Stress Tests

Given that NBA Top Shot is still in beta, we continue to utilize Stress Tests to help us gather data, experiment with product tweaks, and scale our systems. These necessary and valuable tests involve us releasing a limited quantity of Base Set packs to the community and observing how our system responds.

There are a limited quantity of packs available in these Stress Tests, so keep in mind that not everyone will be able to secure one. In fact, because of the very limited number packs released in these periodic tests, it is extremely difficult to snag one.

To ensure that the process is as fair as possible, we’ve implemented a queue system that is explained here.

As a key reminder, Common Base set packs are not necessarily pack drops and will be released on the site at a moment's notice, regardless of whether we are undergoing a “Stress Test” or not.

No email will be sent out and there will be no guarantees of advance notice.

Timing

We hear you, NBA Top Shot Community. We understand pack drops and “Stress Tests” at certain hours aren't ideal for everyone. To be clear, "Stress Tests" are designed to test our systems.

At this time, we are still figuring out a rhythm and cadence in regards to pack drops and “Stress Tests” to make them widely available for collectors.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate the beta.
