The 2024 Metallic Gold LE Pack Drop Guide

Let’s ring in the New Year with gold. Metallic Gold LE is NBA Top Shot’s flagship Rare set, and this January 9, you’ll be able to collect the set’s first Rare Moments of the 2023-24 NBA season.  

Minted to just /299, these Moments are the most limited edition they’ve been since Series 1 (2019-20 NBA Season), accompanied by Drop-specific set Challenges, a season-long Expert Challenge, and set Reward pack airdrops.  

Metallic Gold LE's January Drop features Chet Holmgren, Bilal Coulibaly, and LeBron James as set Challenge Rewards — laying the foundation for a season-long Metallic Gold LE Expert Challenge featuring superstar rookie Victor Wembanyama as the Expert Challenge Reward. Simply collect and lock every single Metallic Gold LE Rare Moment from this NBA season to earn an exclusive Rare Moment from Wembanyama's rookie campaign.

  • Metallic Gold LE Presale Window: Thursday, January 4 to Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 12 PM ET. 
  • Metallic Gold LE Pack Content: 6 Moments per pack, including 1 Rare Metallic Gold LE, 1 Common Rookie Debut, 1 Common Hustle & Show OR Common Extra Spice, and 3 Common Base Set Moments.
  • Price and Availability: 4,700 total packs will be available for sale at $69 each, with collectors able to pre-order between 1 and 25 packs based on their Top Shot Score.

METALLIC GOLD LE CHALLENGE REWARDS AND EXPERT CHALLENGES

The 2023-24 Metallic Gold LE Set will feature 90 total Moments. January’s Drop includes 24 Moments in packs and 3 Challenge Rewards you can earn by collecting and locking the Moments from the drop. 

By collecting and locking the first 89 Moments from the set, you’ll earn the set’s Expert Challenge Reward — the 90th Metallic Gold LE Moment — from Victor Wembanyma — plus a yet-to-be-revealed chance at a special prize exclusive to Expert Challenge completers across all Expert Challenges this season. 

  • Chet Holmgren Challenge Reward (Starting January 9): Collect and lock new Metallic Gold LE Moments from Jayson Tatum, Julius Randle, James Harden, Jalen Suggs, Brandon Ingram, Keegan Murray, Myles Turner and Chris Paul.
  • LeBron James Challenge Reward (Starting January 16): Collect and lock new Metallic Gold LE Moments from Trae Young, Alperen Şengün, DeMar DeRozan, Shaedon Sharpe, Michael Porter Jr, Desmond Bane, Nic Claxton and Donovan Mitchell.

RARE ROOKIE MOMENT SCARCITY REFRESHER

  • Chet Holmgren, Bilal Coulibaly, Victor Wembanyama, and any other Rookies will never have a Metallic Gold LE Moment in packs this season — only as Challenge Rewards.

  • Rookies will not be Rare Challenge Rewards in any set other than Metallic Gold LE.

  • The only Rare Rookie Moments you’ll find in a pack drop this season is the dedicated Freshman Gems drop (minted to /199) coming later this year.

SET INTRODUCTIONS: EXTRA SPICE + HUSTLE & SHOW 

Extra Spice and Hustle & Show are two of the most popular and collected Common sets on NBA Top Shot, and both are starting their return this January for the 2023-24 season. 

As the season continues, each set’s Moments will be released as parts of other pack drops, along with accompanying Challenges.

  • This drop includes 4 Hustle & Show Moments in packs from Cade Cunningham, Zion Williamson, Lauri Markkanen, and Peyton Watson. By collecting and locking all 4 Moments, you’ll earn the set’s first Challenge Reward from Devin Booker (Starting January 9).

  • This drop includes 4 Extra Spice Moments in packs from Darius Garland, Jaden Ivey, Malik Beasley, and Josh Hart. By collecting and locking all 4 Moments, you’ll earn the set’s first Challenge Reward from Steph Curry (Starting January 9).

Both Challenges will go live following the conclusion of the Metallic Gold LE pack drop.

SET REWARDS: METALLIC GOLD LE’s JANUARY DROP 

This Metallic Gold LE pack drop will reward collectors of the following sets with free packs for each Series 4 set they lock by the deadline (January 9, 2024, at 11 AM ET). 

Again, the deadline to earn these Rewards is 11 AM ET on January 9, 2024, so complete and lock your eligible sets before the deadline to secure your Rewards! 

Collectors of Hustle & Show and Extra Spice from Series 4 will receive their set rewards in a future Metallic Gold LE drop during the 23-24 season with deadlines to lock to be announced at a later date.

LEADERBOARDS: TEAM, PLAYER, AND PACK 

For the 2023-24 NBA season, we’ve set aside an allotment of Moments for the Leaderboards associated with the teams and players in each Rare and Legendary Drop. These draws are weighed based on Top Shot Score. The more Top Shot Score a collector has, the higher their chance to receive an airdrop. 

For the first Rare Metallic Gold LE Drop of the season, 5 collectors in the Player Leaderboard and 5 collectors in the Team Leaderboard will receive a Rare Metallic Gold LE Moment from the corresponding players in this drop. One winner will be from the top 1,000 on each leaderboard, three winners will be from the top 250 on each leaderboard and one winner will be from the top 10 of each leaderboard. 

This drop also marks the introduction of Rookie Debut Moments for Noah Clowney (21st Pick), Craig Porter Jr. (Undrafted), and Duop Reath (Undrafted), and 5 collectors have been selected via weighted drawings from the Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Portland Trail Blazers Leaderboards, respectively, to receive their Moments.

The snapshot for the Team Leaderboards was taken at 2:07pm ET on January 4, 2024 and the snapshot for the Player Leaderboards was taken between 5:00pm and 5:29pm ET on January 4, 2024. There are 51 separate weighted Leaderboard draws. The list of all of the winners can be found here.

In addition to these Leaderboard Rewards, a series of Rare Leaderboards will go live, starting now, to earn new Metallic Gold LE Moments for your collection.

  • ALL-STAR LEADERBOARDS LIVE NOW: Win new Metallic Gold LE Moments from DeMar DeRozan, Donovan Mitchell, Julius Randle, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Jayson Tatum. The Top 50 collectors on each player’s Leaderboard will win their new Moment. Eligible Moments include Rare and Legendary Moments of these players.

  • SET CRATE LEADERBOARD LIVE FRIDAY: Win all 24 new Metallic Gold LE Moments, delivered in a 1/1 pack to 1 winner. Inside the pack, everything you need to earn all 3 Challenge Rewards from this Drop. Eligible Moments include previous series Metallic Gold LE Moments of former All-Stars in this drop.

  • METALLIC GOLD LE PACK LEADERBOARD LIVE MONDAY: Win a Metallic Gold LE pack from this drop. The Top 75 collectors on this Leaderboard will guarantee themselves a pack. Eligible Moments include Rare and Legendary Moments of any player in the pack drop or accompanying Challenges.

  • ALL-STAR #1 SERIAL MOMENT LEADERBOARD LIVE TUESDAY: Win the #1 serial Metallic Gold LE Moment for DeMar DeRozan, Donovan Mitchell, Julius Randle, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Jayson Tatum. There will be 1 winner per Leaderboard. Eligible Moments include Rare and Legendary Moments of these players.
