NBA Top Shot has updated Fast Break for the better.

We get it. Whether big or small, changes to Fast Break gameplay can feel scary. But Fast Break is evolving.

Pro Run

It’s coming back for Run 2!

  • Classic: $12,500 prize pool
  • Pro: $10,000 prize pool
  • Historic: $2,500 prize pool

Milestone Packs

They’re returning next run with new Moments.  This will include a chance to rip a Cooper Flagg Rookie Debut.

There weren't milestone packs in Run 1 of the season because we burned the inventory and we didn’t want to recycle old Moments to start the new season. In hindsight, we understand the disappointment their absence caused. Lesson learned: Milestone rewards are an important part of Fast Break and will resume going forward.

Captain Slot Fixes

We’ve made changes to make it clearer which player is designated as your Captain.
We’re aware of the UI issues affecting the Captain slot and are actively working to resolve them ahead of Run 2. The Captain slot will continue to evolve as the season progresses.

Tiebreakers

After extensive research, we found that tiebreakers are rarely used in comparable games.

In the past, we’ve provided extra utility for tiers and serials, but with the new Captain slot creating more scoring variability, we expect far fewer ties overall.

We’ll monitor this closely and are open to reassessing as we collect more data.

For clarity:

  • Tiebreakers remain intact for run rewards and overall run placement.
  • They’re calculated based on average daily position (if 10 players tie for 20th on a specific day, all are treated as 20th).
  • These tiebreakers were displaying improperly but have been fixed and are now reflected properly in the game.

  • 709 Editions gained between 1–3 uses

  • Rare: 14.1% improved | 66.2% same | 19.7% down 1 use
  • Fandom: 28.3% improved | 71.7% same

Our Takeaway

Fast Break was negatively impacting the value of some of the most important Moments on the platform.

Grails at any tier should be treated as grails, and the new scoring system allows for the community to determine what's most collectible.

We’ll continue to monitor and iterate and we’ll provide lead time before future changes to the gameplay.
