The first Rare drop of the 2023-24 NBA season is upon us and not only does it give basketball fans their first taste of Dunk of the Year candidates in the form of an all-new Throwdowns set, it sets the stage for a typical week of drops on NBA Top Shot.

1. Pack Drop Details

2. Team & Player Leaderboards
As we introduced at the beginning of the 2023-24 season, we’ve set aside an allotment of Moments specifically for the Leaderboards associated with the teams and players in each Rare and Legendary drop. These draws are weighted based on Top Shot Score, the more Top Shot Score a collectors has, the higher their chance to win. We see you collecting, we see you stacking, so when players and teams you love earn new Moments, we want to enhance your collection.
Team Leaderboards
Collectors who rank on the Team Leaderboards of the teams associated with Moments in this drop will have a special opportunity to land new Moments from their team. A total of 10 Moments of every Throwdown released in this drop will be distributed this way.
In this weighted draw of 10 total Moments, 5 Moments were allocated for collectors in the Top 500, 4 Moments were allocated to collectors in the Top 1,000 (including, again, the Top 500), and one Moment was eligible to any Collector on the leaderboard.
For example, on October 27, 2023, Atlanta Hawks fans watched Jalen Johnson torpedo through an aerial double team of New York Knicks defenders for an early season Dunk of the Year candidate. Those Atlanta Hawks fans will be the ones randomly selected to receive the commemorative masterpiece that is the third-year forward’s first Throwdowns Moment.
Player Leaderboards
Ten Throwdowns Moments of each player from this drop will be airdropped to those who rank on each associated Player Leaderboard.
As with the Team Leaderboard distribution, in this draw of 10 total Moments, 5 Moments were allocated for collectors in the Top 500, 4 Moments were allocated to collectors in the Top 1,000 (including, again, the Top 500), and 1 Moment was eligible to any collector on the leaderboard.
For example, on October 30, 2023, Los Angeles Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell went viral when out of nowhere he planted a poster dunk on Paolo Banchero. Hoops fans who’ve filled their collections with D’Lo’s greatest hits across all of his NBA Top Shot Moments – including his tenure with the Minnesota Timberwolves – will be in the fast lane to earn his latest.

3. New Burn Leaderboards Exclusive to All-Stars
NBA Top Shot is about collecting what you love and collectors don’t have to look far to find like-minded basketball fans pledging their loyalty and planting their flag in the evolving legacies of players they’re fans of.
When 2022-23 All-Star players qualify for new Rare and Legendary Moments this series, collectors who’ve already built their collection around that player will have a leg up to collect that player’s newest feat. Come February 2024, when new All-Stars are named, the newest crop of All-Stars will qualify for this treatment from that point forward for the rest of the season.
No. 1 Serial Leaderboards for All-Star Players
A proven poster machine and Throwdowns favorite, Jaylen Brown is also an NBA All-Star and this year we’re raising the bar when All-Star players do something epic enough to qualify for a Rare or Legendary Moment.
This season, when an All-Star, as described above, has a Rare or Legendary Moment dropped in packs, the No. 1 Serial Number will be made available to the winner of a pop-up Burn Leaderboard. All collectors are eligible to submit Jaylen Brown Rare, Legendary and Top Shot Debut Moments from previous Series to compete. Only the collector who finishes at the top of the board and receives the Jaylen Brown No. 1 Serial will have their Moments burned, while the other competitors will have their Moments returned to them.
Jaylen Brown’s No. 1 Serial Leaderboard starts today and finishes tomorrow. Go turn your existing Jaylen Brown stacks into the two-time All-Star’s latest grail-worthy Moment now.

Moment Leaderboards for All-Star Players
Similarly, we’re setting aside 50 additional new Jaylen Brown Throwdowns Moments (random serials) for another pop-up Burn Leaderboard.
Jaylen Brown’s Moment Leaderboard will start at the conclusion of the No. 1 Serial Leaderboard and run through the weekend.

4. Challenge Rewards & Expert Challenges
Challenge Rewards are nothing new to NBA Top Shot collectors but we’re raising the stakes this season with the introduction of Expert Challenges for sets that never had them previously - including fan favorite Throwdowns.
After Tuesday’s pack drops, collectors will immediately have their chance to complete the first Throwdowns Challenge for an exclusive Rare Paolo Banchero Throwdowns Moment. (Yes, that one, sorry Pacers fans). Lock each Rare Moment released in the first Throwdowns drop before December 13, 2023 and you’ll get your hands on the reigning Rookie of the Year and current Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
There will be no more than 25 Throwdowns editions in drops this season, plus 5 additional Challenge Rewards and an Expert Challenge to round out the Set.
Collect every Throwdowns Moment released throughout the entire series, including the Paolo Banchero and every other Challenge Reward, and earn an Expert Challenge Reward at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
Completing and locking Sets with Expert Challenges in the 2023-24 season will provide collectors with the chance at a special prize beyond the Expert Challenge Reward itself. More details will be shared later this season.
Set Rewards for Series 4 Completers
As shared previously, collectors of the Series 4 Throwdowns set will be rewarded with an airdrop. That reward is still slated to come, details of which will be disclosed closer to distribution.
5. Pack Leaderboards
Compete for a Throwdowns pack on a Pack Leaderboard by burning Throwdowns from previous seasons or Rare and Legendary Moments from the six players associated with the first drop.
A total of 50 packs will be made available for collectors who top this pop-up burn leaderboard, which starts on Monday and ends immediately prior to the drop on Tuesday.
